CFGC mourns death of trustee Marketti

CFGC joins the entire Grundy County community in mourning the death of Sheriff Terry Marketti, a CFGC trustee since 2010. His passion for Grundy County and common sense style was a great asset to our organization!

Obituary for Sheriff Terry M. Marketti
Age 56, of Gardner, IL, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, December 14, 2012 at his home. Born July 26, 1956 in Joliet, IL to the late Charles C. and Matilda “Tillie” (nee Batusich) Marketti, Sr.

Terry had been the Grundy County Sheriff since 2004, when he took over after Sheriff Jim Olson’s death. He had been a member of the sheriff’s department for 34 years, dedicating his life to serving the communities of Grundy County. His first elected position was when he was 18 years old on the South Wilmington Village Board, which he served on for 22 years.

He also served on numerous boards for charities and organizations throughout his life, including Big Brother Big Sisters of Will and Grundy County, Grundy Area P.A.D.S. (Public Action to Deliver Shelter), the Community Foundation of Grundy County, Grundy Economic Development Council, Breaking Away, Gardner Village Board, No Tolerance Task Force, the Grundy County Emergency Telephone System Board, Operation St. Nick, We Care of Grundy County, and many others. He was a past member of the Gardner Fire Protection District Board and continued to be an adviser. He was also a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington, IL.

Terry owned and operated Marketti’s Shell in Gardner. He had a generous soul and was known to donate to many local charities, non-profit organizations, as well as many individuals.

Terry was a very devoted son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and friend. Surviving are his brother, Rick (Donna) Marketti of Gardner; niece, Betsy (Bryan) Hennessy of Gardner and their children, Emma and Claire Hennessy; nephew, Blake Marketti of South Wilmington, IL; sister-in-law, Jacke (the late “Cookie”) Marketti of Green Valley, AZ; sister-in-law, Vivian (Dale) Bloom of Crest Hill, IL and their children, Brian Marketti and Eric Marketti amp; family, both of Joliet. Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother, Charles “Cookie” Marketti on October 12, 2002. Terry was a devoted god-father and special friend to many.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington, Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. John Hornicak officiating. Interment Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, Braceville, IL. Visitation will be Monday, December 17 from 2-8 p.m. at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name to any Grundy County Organization Terry was associated with would be appreciated.
