Year End Charitable Giving

It’s hard to believe that the end of the year is already upon us!  And like most not-for-profit organizations, we like to spend time at the end of the tax year to remind donors that our work and impact in the community are worthy of a charitable gift.

But before we get to that, it’s important to review what a community foundation is and why we are the only organization of our kind serving Grundy County.

The Morris Community Foundation encourages personal philanthropy to improve the quality of life in Grundy County.  We are unique in that we provide tools, insight, and inspiration to donors so that they can tailor their giving to meet their charitable needs and interests.  More than 100 individuals, families, and companies give through the Morris Community Foundation because it is efficient and satisfying.

If you want to use this season of giving to explore how philanthropy can be emotionally satisfying and financially efficient, please call us at 941-0852 to learn about the various types of funds that are available and easily customized for your specific philanthropic needs and desires.

In addition to tailored donor services, a community foundation also networks throughout the community in order to be well-versed on the issues affecting us all.  Some of the issues that we have addressed in 2007 include transportation, land protection, people in need, and families with young children.

Because we are a young organization (only eight years old), we still rely on annual supporting gifts to our operations so that we can continue networking in the community to identify issues and develop solutions.  We believe that this is our strength and what is impacting our county now and in the future.  If the overall quality of life in Grundy County is important to you, too, please consider a charitable gift to the Morris Community Foundation this holiday season.

We also have a year-end reminder: if you are age 70-1/2 or older and have an IRA, you can make gifts to any charitable organization from that IRA without the distribution being counted as income.  The deadline for this IRS provision is December 31, 2007.  We have more details on this opportunity, so please do not hesitate to call us for more information.

November and December are great months in Grundy County because we are such a charitable county.  “Thank you” to everyone who donates time, money, or food to the various organizations who serve Grundy County.  We cannot do it without you!

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
