Each year the Community Foundation of Grundy County provides grants to nonprofits from Grundy County and beyond through our donor funds and our competitive grant process.

In 2015, $180,415 was awarded to organizations throughout the country. Of the total amount, $145,015 came from donor funds, $30,400 was from our unrestricted grant fund and $5,000 from our youth philanthropy fund.

Donor funds are started by an individual, family or group and can grant money out to their favorite nonprofit organization anywhere.

The unrestricted grant fund is also known as our competitive grant program. Organizations must submit a grant application that is then reviewed by our Grants and Programs Committee. The unrestricted grant fund allows for $30,000 to be granted out over the course of the year to organizations that serve Grundy County. The maximum grant amount per organization per year is $5,000 at this time.

The youth philanthropy fund allows for $5,000 to be granted out during a calendar year. Much like the unrestricted fund, the youth fund requires organizations complete an application, which is then reviewed by the Youth Engaged in Philanthropy Committee.

In 2016 the Community Foundation of Grundy County has already provided $17,399 in grants from our unrestricted fund and $5,000 from our youth philanthropy fund. The following organizations have received grants in 2016 from the unrestricted fund: Junior Achievement, Grundy County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will & Grundy County, Illinois Valley Industries, and Grundy Area Chapter of National Ambucs Inc.

In May, the Youth Engaged in Philanthropy Committee presented grants to Grundy Area PADS, Grundy Three Rivers Habitat for Humanity and Boy Scouts of America.

The Grants and Programs Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month to review grant requests and still has the capacity to assist additional organizations in 2016. The Youth Engaged in Philanthropy Group meets from October until May and typically requires grant requests be submitted in March.
